God Is Real: Surrender with a “Yes!”

When Sally was in elementary school, she was sharing God with her fellow students. Her teacher scoffed and walked up to her. “God doesn’t exist!” Sally responded patiently, “Oh yeah? Prove it!” The flustered teacher said, “There’s never been any evidence of God, so He can’t exist!” Sally remembered what her parents had told her. “Have you ever been to Zimbabwe?” “Well, no, but—“ “Do you know anyone from Zimbabwe?” “No—“ “Then by your definition, Zimbabwe doesn’t exist either! But you believe in Zimbabwe, don’t you?”

I don’t know about you, but there’s a lot of unbelief out there! Jesus is so good, but there are people out there who are so lost! They hear phrases like “surrender my everything,” “born again,” and “love on your kids” and think we’re some kind of crazy people! But really, they’re the crazy ones because their hearts aren’t on fire. Our hearts are on fire because we surrendered them to God. Because they don’t believe God is real, they looked right at Him and said “no” to their surrender. How do I know that God is real? It’s like a fish believing in water! It’s so obvious to us that we can hardly explain it. The only way to really see Him is to surrender to Him.

See, when the election happened, I was very distraught. How could God let something like this happen? There is so much evil in the world, from roleplaying games to the internet to the entire Millennial generation! Then I remembered a Bible verse, Luke 4:10-11: “For it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’ and ‘on their hands they will lift you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” God won’t give us more than we can handle, and he’s certainly not going to stop now!

During the Fourth Crusade, a small group of Christian knights were up against what was once the strongest empire in the world. They approached the enemy capital in boats and were having difficulty breaching the walls of the city. One of the crusaders wrote later that “our Lord raised a wind… which drove the ships and vessels further up on to the shore.” One of the ships was driven so close to a tower that the crusaders were able to board it! When they finally took the city, do you know what they did? They “[rejoiced] and [gave] thanks because of the victory God had vouchsafed to them—for those who before had been poor were now in wealth and luxury.” God provides His followers with blessings beyond measure!

So we need to say “Yes!” to our surrender. God wants to bless us, but we won’t let Him in! There’s an old Greek word which doesn’t have a good translation into English, “ανοιξη,“ (anoidzay) which means “to open.” We need to ανοιξη our hearts to Jesus, so he can ανοιξη His gifts to us! You just have to accept Him into your life, and everything will work out in the end! You can’t do it on your own. I sure can’t; I have trouble reaching the top shelves of my cupboard! The only way for us to stand tall is to get down on our knees.

As I’ve shown, God is unbelievably real, but I’ll close on something to ponder. In July 2010, a number of scientists discovered that the minimum number of moves required to solve any Rubik’s Cube was twenty. They called it “God’s Number.” And what’s the twentieth letter in the alphabet? None other than the shape of the cross. If that’s not proof of God, I don’t know what is!
